A Casa Vella

A Casa Vella

A space for creation

We believe that spaces for art and creation constitute an essential part of the cultural backbone of any given territory; they allow an opening to art for the community and a social and cultural flourishing, among many other reasons, such as:

01 /

Work

First of all, they serve as ideal workplaces for artists and other cultural professionals; a space where they get to improve their performance and enhance their capacity for innovation and research, and which in turn results in better creations and cultural projects for society.

02 /

Reactivation

Secondly, they help to stimulate and revitalize the territories, while also enhancing the value of their own heritage and resources, by linking the artists and their creative processes with the local community and its environment, from which they draw inspiration and to which they give back in the form of activities, exhibitions and other initiatives.

03 /

Innovation

Thirdly, they are centers with great capacity for innovating and building relationships, creating networks across geographies and other projects, as well as providing medium and long term resources, strategic alliances, positioning and recognition.

One of the first spaces of this kind to be launched in Galicia, A Casa Vella is a groundbreaking project aligned with the spirit and trends of its time, where a multiplicity of initiatives are emerging and seeking to enliven the value of the countryside through new sustainable models that associate culture, nature, social welfare and professional development.

Objectives

Objectives

A Casa Vella seeks:

  • To contribute with the community by introducing new ways of inhabiting, enlivening and developing our rural territory through creation and promotion of artistic activities, social actions, and sustainable agro-food practices which are intimately part of our lives and interrelating each other.

  • To promote social, cultural and economic boosts for the territory.

  • To preserve and highlight the value of the intangible cultural heritage linked to the rural environment.

  • To create bridges between the culture and traditions that are still alive in the environment and contemporary artistic creation.

  • To decentralize the access to living arts and artistic creation from the metropolis, seeking to guarantee universal and equitable access to artistic practices as an essential public resource.

  • To foster a context for the creation of employment in the field of the arts in rural areas.

  • To facilitate the relationship and dialogue between the rural and urban environments.

  • To serve as a space for meeting, promoting and supporting innovative projects and initiatives that are moving towards an economy and society that is sustainable and respectful with the environment.

  • To establish strategic alliances with like-minded projects at regional, national and international level.

  • To value the body and its language as the core of relationship, expression, health and communication.

  • To promote collaborative artistic projects that give voice to the rural community.

  • To reinforce the sense of community, identity and local governance through social participation in creative and artistic processes, as well as in communal agricultural practices.

  • To improve the living standards of the rural residents.

  • To collaborate in the construction of a diverse, reflective, inclusive and cohesive society thanks to the symbolic effectiveness of art in general and the performing arts in particular.

  • To enhance the value and the need for preservation of the natural landscape, by means of exposing it and including it as a scenographic backdrop.

  • To promote gender equality transversally in all activities and actions promoted by A Casa Vella.
